Assessments at Safari International School

At Safari International School, we believe in ongoing assessments that provide meaningful and timely feedback to students, parents, and teachers. Assessments at Safari are designed to support student growth, help teachers plan more effectively, and ensure parents are well-informed about their child’s progress.

MAP Growth Tests

We use the MAP Growth Test for Math and English, an internationally recognized assessment aligned with the Cambridge International Curriculum. This assessment provides valuable insights into each student’s abilities, helping us tailor our teaching to individual learning needs.

Key Features of MAP Growth:
  • Personalized Testing:
    • The test adapts to the student’s ability level.
    • If a student struggles with a difficult question, the next question becomes easier. Similarly, if they succeed, the next question increases in complexity.
  • Effective Differentiation:
    • The test accommodates students of different levels within the same class, enabling teachers to plan differentiated instruction more effectively.
  • Progress Tracking:
    • Tracks development in different subject areas over time, providing a clear picture of a student’s academic journey.
  • Instant Results:
    • Results are available immediately after the test, offering actionable recommendations on areas for improvement.
  • Stress-Free Testing:
    • The test is online and untimed, reducing pressure on students and allowing them to focus on their performance.
IB PYP Assessments

As an IB PYP candidate school, we embrace a holistic approach to assessment that goes beyond traditional testing. Students are assessed through a variety of methods that align with the IB philosophy, focusing on their development as inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring individuals.

IB PYP Assessment Methods:
  • Presentations and Performances:
    • Students demonstrate their learning through creative and interactive formats such as exhibitions, plays, and debates.
  • Formative Assessments:
    • Ongoing feedback during the learning process helps students improve and understand their progress.
  • Summative Assessments:
    • These occur at the end of a unit and evaluate the depth of student understanding and application of knowledge.
  • Peer and Self-Assessments:
    • Encouraging reflection and evaluation of their own work and that of their peers.

This approach ensures that students not only acquire knowledge but also develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Cambridge Checkpoint Tests

For students completing Year 6, parents have the option to have their child sit for the Cambridge Checkpoint Test in English, Math, and Science. This internationally recognized test provides certification that can be useful for students planning to continue their studies abroad.

At Safari International School, we use assessments not just as a way to measure performance but as a tool to support learning and growth. By combining internationally recognized assessments like MAP Growth and Cambridge Checkpoint with the holistic approach of the IB PYP, we ensure that every child is equipped with the skills and knowledge to excel in their educational journey and beyond.
